Privacy policy
Last updated: October 13, 2026
This policy explains what information Spot Vinyls ("we", "us") collects when you use the Spot Vinyls app and website, how we use it, and the choices you have. We don't sell your personal information or use it for advertising.
Information we collect
- Account information. Your email address and password when you sign up with email. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your email address (or an Apple private relay address) and, if you share it, your name.
- Content you post. Stores you add (name, address, website, phone) and record finds you share, including photos, notes, prices and links. Stores and finds are visible to everyone who uses the app. The verified owner of a store can correct the details of finds posted at that store and mark them as sold.
- Store claims. If you claim a store, your role, the name you provide, and a photo of mail delivered to the store. The text on the photo is read automatically to check that the name and address match; we keep only whether they matched, not the text. If they don't match and you ask for a review, a member of our team looks at the photo. Claim photos are private, are only used to verify ownership, and are deleted about 90 days after the claim is decided.
- Location. If you allow it, the app uses your device location to show stores near you. Your location is sent with that search and is not stored on our servers. The search area you choose (a city, a spot on the map, or "current location") is saved on your device so the app opens where you left off; if you use your current location, only that choice is saved, not your coordinates. When the app opens, it also estimates an approximate city from your IP address to center the map. That estimate isn't stored or used for searches.
- Artists and stores you follow. If you follow an artist, we store the artist, the area you chose (a city or ZIP, or a point near your location when you pick "current location") and the distance, so we can tell you about new finds there. If you follow a store, we store which store. If you allow notifications, we also store a push token for your device, which our provider Expo uses to deliver them. Unfollowing removes the follow, signing out removes that device's push token, and deleting your account removes all of it.
- Reports. If you report a store or find, the reason and any details you add. Reports are only seen by us and are used to moderate the service.
- Camera and photos. Used only when you choose to take or attach a photo. Photos you upload are checked automatically for explicit content before they're posted.
- Support emails. If you contact us from the app, the email includes the app version and your device's operating system version to help us troubleshoot.
- Technical data. Our servers keep standard request logs (such as IP address and time) to operate the service and investigate problems.
How we use it
- To create and secure your account, including sending verification and password-reset codes.
- To show the store directory, record finds, and stores near you.
- To notify you about new finds from artists and stores you follow.
- To verify store ownership.
- To keep the service working, review reports, remove content that breaks our terms of use, prevent abuse, and respond to support requests.
Service providers
We rely on these providers to run Spot Vinyls. They process data on our behalf:
- Amazon Web Services — account sign-in (Amazon Cognito), data and photo storage, email delivery, address lookup (Amazon Location Service), automatic photo moderation (Amazon Rekognition), and reading the text on store claim photos (Amazon Textract).
- Apple and Google — only if you choose Sign in with Apple or Google.
- GeoJS — approximate city from your IP address, used only to center the map.
- Expo, Apple and Google — delivery of push notifications, only if you allow them.
Keeping and deleting your data
We keep your information while your account is active. When a find is marked as sold or gone, or removed after a report, it's hidden from the app but kept with its photos so it can be restored if that was a mistake. You can delete your account at any time in the app under Account → Delete account. This permanently deletes your account, the finds you posted and their photos, any store claims and claim photos, and reports you submitted. Stores you added stay in the community directory but are no longer linked to you. Server logs and backups are removed on their normal schedule.
You can also ask us to access, correct or delete your information by emailing support@spotvinyls.com.
Children
Spot Vinyls is not directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date above and, for significant changes, let you know in the app.
